Mavericks agree to terms with new head coach Jason Kidd, GM Nico Harrison

The Dallas Mavericks have officially agreed to terms with Jason Kidd to be their head coach and longtime Nike executive Nico Harrison to run their basketball operations, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN. According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Kidd signed a four-year deal.

Kidd is replacing Rick Carlisle, who was just hired by the Indiana Pacers yesterday. Harrison is replacing Donnie Nelson, who worked in the Mavericks' front office for 24 years (acquiring Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash and Luka Doncic among others). 

Prior to becoming a coach, Kidd played for the Mavs and helped the franchise win its lone championship in 2011. Kidd was previously a head coach for the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks, and he has a career record of 183-190 (.491) in the regular season and 9-15 (.375) in the playoffs. Most recently, he was an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers (winning a ring as part of Frank Vogel's 2019-20 staff).

Harrison was in charge of recruiting and retaining athletes at Nike, and he worked closely with Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Luka Doncic among others. Several teams reportedly tried to hire Harrison in a front-office role, but he wasn't willing to leave Nike until now. By all indications, he's well-respected and has strong relationships in the basketball world.
