2022 NBA Draft Combine: Takeaways from Scrimmage No. 2
The NBA Draft Combine provides many opportunities for prospects to shine, and the scrimmages are, at times, where selections are earned. With that in mind and the second scrimmage in the books, let's look into some notable prospect performances.
Dereon Seabron, NC State
Dereon Seabron posted 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals, utilizing his length to affect the game on both ends. He led the Wolfpack in multiple statistical categories, and excels in attacking and finishing in the lane with his long wingspan. He isn't much of a floor-stretcher at this point in his career, but adds significant value in other areas, such as rebounding and facilitating. He is older for a sophomore (22.1 years old on Draft Day), but continues to make a strong case for himself this June.
Christian Braun, Kansas
Christian Braun did his thing, impacting the game in a variety of ways with 6 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. At 6-foot-6, Braun has positional size and has shown the ability to score from anywhere on the floor. He has a smooth release from three, can pick his spots off the dribble and is highly effective in transition. He is reliable on and off the ball on offense, while providing intelligent defense on the other end. Braun is a well-rounded player and makes a strong case for the 2022 NBA Draft.
Jalen Williams, Santa Clara
Jalen Williams posted 11 points and 4 rebounds on 5-of-8 from the floor. After registering tremendous numbers in the anthro testing, Jalen Williams then posted a 39-inch max vertical, giving real promise to how he'll fit on an NBA floor. His defense leaves a lot to be desired, but his shooting, offensive skill set and obvious athleticism may lead to a rise in his draft value.
Drew Timme, Gonzaga
Timme scored 13 points on 6-of-9 from the floor, and also added 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Timme was arguably the best low-post scorer in the nation with tremendous footwork, touch and an ability to manipulate defenders. He needs to improve his lateral quickness and pick-and-roll defense, as he can often get taken out of the play with ease on the perimeter. If he is able to address some of those concerns, he could solidify himself as a solid draft pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Michael Foster Jr., G League Ignite
Foster registered 5 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 blocks in this one. With a unique combination of skill, athleticism and power, Foster is a tremendous play-finisher who has also flashed the ability to stretch the floor. He excels as a rebounder and defender due to his toughness, physical strength and motor. Foster seems to be somewhat of a polarizing prospect in regards to his projected draft range. Depending on how teams view Foster's shot selection, efficiency and consistency, he could climb up draft boards.
