Add the Minnesota Timberwolves as another team interested in veteran point guard Mike Conley Jr. ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline, writes Shams Charania of The Athletic.
He detailed that the Timberwolves have a decision to make regarding D'Angelo Russell who is on an expiring $31.4M deal with it being unlikely that he will sign an extension. If he leaves via free agency this summer, Minnesota would lose out on a valuable salary slot that it could use to upgrade its roster.
Minnesota has been looking around the league for a deal involving Russell while also looking for another point guard.
The Los Angeles Clippers are another team that is reportedly interested in Conley who is averaging 10.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists while shooting 38% from the field and 34.9% from three-point range. Conley is making $22.3M this season and has a partial guarantee of $14.3M for the 2023-24 season.
There have also been rumors that the Miami Heat would be interested in acquiring Russell for Kyle Lowry but the Timberwolves are not interesting in taking on his contract which is $28.3M this season and fully guaranteed for $29.7 next season.
