The Minnesota Timberwolves and Rudy Gobert have agreed to a 3-year, $110 million extension, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. 

The 4-time Defensive Player of the League has turned down his $46.6 million player option for 2025-26 and brings his total deal to around $153 million.

Gobert's deal includes a player option in 2027-28 and a trade kicker.

ANALYSIS: With this new extension, Gobert and Minnesota are locked long term as they continue to build their championship aspirations. Gobert has been the anchor and backbone of the Wolves’ defense over the past two years and he will continue to do so for years to come. He was one of the main reasons for the Timberwolves going 56-26 last year and defeating the defending champions Denver Nuggets in 7 games in the Western Conference semifinals.

Moreover, the underlying factor is Gobert taking a slight pay cut to accommodate the possible resigning of reigning 6th Man of the Year Naz Reid to an extension next season. This allows the Wolves to be as competitive as possible and keep all of their main guys together to contend for a championship.
